Grade 3 · Operations & Algebraic Thinking
By the end of Grade 3, students fluently multiply and divide within 100 and know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers — the times tables, in plain terms. This is the fact-fluency capstone that everything else in Grade 3 multiplication and division (area models, word problems, multi-step equations) leans on.
Builds on earlier Grade 3 work understanding what multiplication and division mean (equal groups, arrays, sharing) and on strategies like skip-counting and using known facts. It also depends on the addition fluency built in 2.NBT.B.5, since multiplication facts are often derived from repeated addition at first.
Facts are locked to one-digit factors (within 100) so every problem matches 3.OA.C.7 exactly.
